I am pleased to share with you plans for the development of a new 140-bed acute care hospital in Lindenhurst and also provide details on $70 million in investments in Vista's Waukegan health care facilities, including an open heart program. Both the new hospital and the open heart program require approval by the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board (IHFPB).

Vista Health System filed a letter of intent with the IHFPB in November to build the new $99.8 million Vista Medical Center Lindenhurst. It will be built on the site of Vista's surgery center located off Grand Avenue. The new 215,000 square-foot medical center will offer improved health care access to residents of Western Lake County.

Our $70 million investment in Vista Medical Center East and West in Waukegan includes:

  • Expanding and modernizing the ICU and same-day surgery area at Vista Medical Center East;
  • Renovating Vista Medical Center East's New Family Center, which serves pregnant women and their families;
  • Enhancing and expanding cardiac services at Vista Medical Center East;
  • Expanding behavioral health care and inpatient rehabilitation services at Vista Medical Center West; and
  • Transforming Vista Medical Center West's former emergency room into a 24-hour urgent care center.

These improvements are in addition to the $20 million construction project recently completed at Vista Medical Center East, which added a dedicated catheterization lab and endoscopy suites, and expanded and renovated the emergency room.

Vista also recently filed a letter of intent with the IHFPB to develop an open heart surgery program at Vista Medical Center East. This is the next step in the evolution of our cardiac services. Our patients will have the added benefit of an open heart program right here in their own community.
